The Criminal Justice system is not appropriate for terrorists
We're seeing that now in the case against Zacarias Moussaoui
According to Fox News, Clinton appointee U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema
has ruled that Moussaoui, who is representing himself, should be allowed to question Binalshibh through a satellite hookup. The exchange, which the government is desperately trying to stop, could be played to jurors if Moussaoui's case goes to trial.
Too many people are confusing the criminal justice system with the war on terrorism. The criminal justice system seeks to deter potential criminals by the threat of arrest, trial, and incarceration or death. When that fails to deter a criminal from stealing or killing or raping, then the system responds by attempting to arrest the criminal after the fact.
Islamic Terrorists are not deterred by the threats of our criminal justice system. In fact, they are
trained to exploit the system to further their cause. They don't care if they die in perpetrating terrorist acts. So much the better to die a martyr.
The first WTC bombing was treated as a crime. The immediate perpetrators were caught, prosecuted and jailed. Abdel-Rahman, the Blind Cleric, allegedly used his lawyer and a paralegal translator
to issue instructions to "Islamic Group", an Egyptian based terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the shooting and stabbing of 58 tourists and four Egyptians at Luxor. So much for providing access to counsel.
The Government should consider yanking Moussaoui out of the US Court system and dispatching him to Guantanamo Bay.
